3AE Cleary is a graduate of Elon University (formerly Elon College) with a BS in History. However, he had a desire to work at sea so he acquired his Junior Engineer qualification. Tom then earned his 3rd Mate's License through sea time and studying. His prior service includes tours on RUDE and THOMAS JEFFERSON. He resides in Monks Corner, SC with his wife, daughter and son.
