Been on McARTHUR II since, 1989.

Has worked for NOAA since 1980. Has worked on the NOAA Ships Mt Mitchell, Davidson, McArthur, and McArthur II.

Executive Officer- LCDR Nathan Hanckock, Hometown: Orange Beach, AL.

LCDR Nathan H. Hancock is originally from Gulf Shores , Alabama . He entered active service 28 June 1993 when he reported to the U.S. Military Academy. He received his degree in environmental sciences/systems engineering and his commission, Second Lieutenant, Army Engineer, through the U.S. Military Academy on 31 May 1997 . He served two rotations in the 3rd Infantry Division and one rotation in the 36th Engineer Group with one combat deployment in support of Operations Enduring and Iraqi Freedom during his 7 years as an officer in the Army. While attending the Engineer Captains Career Course, Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri , LCDR Hancock completed his Masters Degree in Geology and Geophysics from the University of Missouri-Rolla. LCDR Hancock came to NOAA via an interservice transfer on 30 July 2004 , where, after attending BOTC 106, he was assigned as Field Operations Officer aboard the McArthur II. In June 2006 LCDR Hancock fleeted up to Executive Officer.

Field Operations Officer- LT Amanda Middlemiss, Hometown: Syracuse , NY

Been on McARTHUR II since, December 2006.

This is Lt. Middlemiss’ second sea assignment. She has sailed on the NOAA Ship Ferrel, and on the NOAA Ship Nancy Foster as Navigation Officer. She has a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Marine Biology from the Florida Institute of Technology. She has previously worked for the State of Florida at FMRI. While not aboard ship, Lt Middlemiss resides in Marysville , WA with her husband. She enjoys reading, cooking, and scrapbooking in her spare time.

Junior Officer - ENS Joshua Slater, Hometown: A little bit of everywhere (recently NC)

Been on McARTHUR II since, June 2006.

ENS Slater is from a Navy family and grew up overseas. He spent two years in college on the men’s varsity swim team, receiving All-Conference Honors. He graduated from the University of North Carolina Wilmington with a B.S. in Marine Biology and a M.S. in Marine Science. His Master’s research focused on the ‘winter energetics of juvenile bluefish’ and is currently “in press” for publication in the Marine Ecology Progress Series. While in graduate school, ENS Slater taught undergraduate biology labs, participated in overnight research trawling cruises (70’ R/V Cape Fear), received two graduate student fellowships, and presented his research at a national American Fisheries Society conference. After graduating in December 2004, he took a temporary position as a NOAA contractor out of Honolulu , HI . While there, he spent two months in the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands (aboard the 140’ M/V Freebird) free diving and removing derelict fishing gear from the coral reefs of French Frigate Shoals. ENS Slater joined the McArthur II in June of ’06 and is a certified NOAA working diver.

Junior Officer - ENS Andrew Colegrove, Hometown: Walnut Creek, CA

Been on McARTHUR II since, December 2006.

Graduated from the California Maritime Academy in April of 2006 with a B.S. in Marine Transportation, with emphasis on Marine Management Operations. While at Cal Maritime, he served as a Resident Assistant for two years and served within the Corps of Cadets as Company Executive Officer. He has spent a total of six months at sea, including four months onboard the Academy’s 500’ Training Ship Golden Bear and two months on the NOAA Ship Ka’Imimoana as a Cadet in August/September of 2004. While on the Golden Bear, he served as Corps Commander and was in charge of the daily operations of over 150 deck and engine cadets. He has a USCG Third Mate Unlimited Tonnage, Any Ocean License.
