Laboratory Spaces

The GORDON GUNTER is equipped with an electronics shop, a machine shop, and a bos'n shop. Each shop is supported with qualified personnel and is able to complete repairs to, and on occasion modify, scientific sampling equipment at sea. This capability has enabled adapting specialized equipment and fabricating damage parts to ensure project completion. In addition to support shops, the GORDON GUNTER has a total of four laboratory spaces that can be utilized by scientific personnel. Services available in the labs are:

Wet Lab

The Wet Lab is approximately 440 sq. ft., located on the starboard side, just forward of the trawl deck on the 01 level. This space is the primary wet processing lab for trawl sampling. A conveyor runs up from the trawl deck, allowing specimens to be moved into the lab, processed, and then discarded down an overboard chute.

Other features include: 2 top loading freezer totaling approx. 52 cu. ft , toxic chemical bins with power ventilation, freshwater, lab sink, counter top, 30 cu. ft. refrigerator, weather-tight doors, 3/4" saltwater supply, non-regulated electrical power, steam outlet, scupper drainage, telephone, fluorescent lighting, compressed air outlets



Dry Lab

The Dry Lab is approximately 387.5 sq. ft., located forward of the Wet Lab on the 01 deck.The lab contains contains a CTD monitoring station, a depthfinder, several computers, a small marine reference library and plenty of space for project-specific scientific equipment.

Hydro Chem Lab

The Hydro Chem Lab is approximately 216 sq. ft., located aft of the the Wet Lab on the 01 deck. The Hydrochem Lab is a versatile scientific workspace. It has been used for acoustic monitoring and for tracking and communications with the submersibles. It contains the TSG, flourometer and pCO2 systems.

Computer Lab

The Computer Lab is approximately 186 sq. ft., located ... This lab contains the computers used for the Scientific Computer System and the ships internal network.

Marine Mammal Observation Station

The Marine Mammal Observation Station is located on top of the Pilot House. This area can be equipped with 3 pairs of "Big Eyes" Binoculars.

Aft Chemical Station
