Census Bureau Says 2.1 Million People in Coastal Counties
Affected by Hurricane Gustav

     The U.S. Census Bureau today calculated that Hurricane Gustav affected some 2.1 million people in the coastal counties of Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi as it made landfall on the Gulf Coast. The Census Bureau has updated its emergency preparedness page to highlight data for the 13 coastal counties of Louisiana, including housing, workforce and business data.

     As the 2008 hurricane season progresses, the Census Bureau will continue to post information on its Hurricane Data and Emergency Preparedness Web page <http://www.census.gov/Press-Release/www/emergencies/index.html>
