Description The purpose of the workshop was to educate the industry in the use of a surface blowout Preventor (BOP) for floating drilling operations and to provide an understanding of the associated risks and mitigating safeguards. MMS and the offshore industry used the workshop to form dedicated work groups to establish guidelines to ensure consistent best practices are adopted throughout the industry. This project gave MMS insight into the potential use of surface BOP for floating drilling activities and provided an opportunity to participate in the discussions and development of operating guidelines.
