Subject Deepwater Field Measurements
Performing Activity Texas A&M University, Offshore Technology Research Center (OTRC)
Principal Investigator Mercier & Niedzwecki
Contracting Agency Minerals Management Service
Completion Completed
Description

Project assessed data from deepwater floating drilling and production systems that are presently able to calibrate, validate and improve design analysis tools for deepwater structures, moorings and risers; identify needs for additional data and to identify opportunities for initiation of field measurement programs. An International Workshop was held and leading personnel from the industry and academia talked about topics as follows:

  1. Deepwater field studies and measurements-oceanographic findings that impact offshore design,

  2. Loading mechanisms and platform response-fundamental mechanics, design issues and how to best utilize model basins,

  3. Industry lead field measurement studies- field measurement objectives and approaches being applied to address information gaps in offshore design

  4. Deepwater systems and future field measurements-future research needed to fill technical information gaps for offshore system designs.
