Project Number 389
Date of Summary December 14, 2005
Subject Characterizing Polyester Rope Installation Damage
Performing Activity Stress Engineering Services
Principal Investigator Ray Ayres
Contracting Agency Minerals Management Service
Estimated Completion Completed
Description The primary objective of this project was to characterize key types of polyester rope damage that might affect the performance of a deepwater taut line mooring system. Since recent experiences have shown that these polyester mooring lines are susceptible to damage during installation, it is important to identify how this damage is created when installing these polyester mooring lines.
Progress This effort will tie in to Project 369 on damage criteria for polyester ropes. Stress will be testing some mid-scale rope samples and will correlate these results with the ongoing OTRC rope effort. Recent data developed from these tests were sent to OTRC to assist in that effort.
