Project Number 140
Date of Summary September 30, 1990
Subject Wind Loads and Wind/Wave Interaction on Compliant Offshore Structures
Performing Activity The University of Western Ontario
Principal Investigator Dr. Barry Vickery
Contracting Agency Minerals Management Service
Estimated Completion Complete
Description This was a Joint Industry Project (JIP). The objective was to develop improvements in design guidelines and procedures related to the verification of compliant offshore structures subject to strong wind and wave environments. Three areas are of particular importance:

1) to use a dynamic model to develop an understanding of the action of storm winds and waves on compliant structures;

2) to provide an improved description of the low frequency components of the wind spectrum; and

3) to compare the response of the experimental models with their mathematical counterparts.
