Project Number 93
Date of Summary September 30, 1985
Subject Site-Response, Liquefaction and Soil-Pile Interaction Studies Involving the Centrifuge
Performing Activity The Earth Technology Corporation California Institute of Technology
Principal Investigator Dr. C. B. Crouse & Dr. Ronald F. Scott
Contracting Agency Sandia National Laboratories
Estimated Completion Cancelled
Description The objective was to study, by simulating realistic conditions in a centrifuge, earthquake ground motions and the effects on the soil-structure interaction phenomenon for offshore structures. Such studies will lead to better methods for: (1) developing site-specific seismic design motions, (2) determining liquefaction potential and permanent ground movement, and (3) predicting pile behavior for different earthquake ground motions. This was a Joint Industry Project (JIP) to evaluate centrifuge modeling techniques for predicting the site response of Outer Continental Shelf platforms and the soil liquefaction potential during an earthquake.
Progress Cancelled
