Project Number 69
Date of Summary March 31, 1987
Subject Reliability of Gravel Mat Foundations for Arctic Gravity Structures
Performing Activity National Bureau of Standards
Principal Investigator Dr. Felix Yokel
Contracting Agency Minerals Management Service
Estimated Completion Complete
Description A state-of-the-art study was conducted, including a review of current design procedures and recent research data. Limit state criteria and the uncertainty in the determination of the relevant structural response parameters were assessed based on current available information. Problem areas were identified with an assessment of the ability of current technology to deal with these problems. Areas where additional information is needed to increase our capability to determine the reliability of gravel mat foundations were also identified.
Progress Complete. A literature search was completed and numerous contacts were made with geotechnical consultants to ascertain the current state-of-the-art. Based on the information developed, potential problem areas were identified and assessed to determine their influence on the reliability of future Arctic gravity structures.
