Project Number | 44 |
Date of Summary | March 31, 1983 |
Subject | Environmental Effects of Wellhead Removal by Explosives |
Performing Activity | Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution |
Principal Investigator | Dr. Earl Hays |
Contracting Agency | Minerals Management Service |
Estimated Completion | Complete |
Description | The objective was to determine the probabilities of killing fish by removing wellheads using explosives. Factors such as time of year, water depth, and type of explosive will be studied in order to relate blast effects upon different species and sizes of fish. Explosive test data from Project No. 25 is being used. |
Progress | Complete. Surveys were made on fish species, habitat, etc., prior to explosive testing in New England waters. Tests and analysis indicate no substantial damage to fish populations. |
