Project Number | 601 |
Date of Summary | October 30, 2007 |
Subject | Seabed Scour and Buried-Pipeline Deformation due to Ice Ridges |
Performing Activity | Texas Engineering Experiment Station (TEES) |
Principal Investigator | Drs. Sypros Kinnas, Richard Mercier, and John Tassoulas |
Contracting Agency | Minerals Management Service |
Estimated Completion | August 31, 2008 |
Description |
The
objective is to study factors affecting soil and pipeline deformation
below scouring ice ridges in the Arctic
environment. The study will provide:
1. detailed characterization of moving ice-ridge morphology on the basis of available observations and measurement reports, 2. response simulations of ice-ridge-soil-pipeline systems by means of computational-fluid-dynamics representations and finite-element models that capture flow and deformation in porous media, and 3. development of recommendations regarding the minimum required burial depth for pipeline protection from scouring ice ridges. |
