Internships

Internships are intended to provide individuals who have graduated from an undergraduate or graduate program with an opportunity to integrate their education and experience into full-time employment with the Federal government. The Presidential Management Fellows Program (PMF), the HHS Emerging Leaders Program (PMF), and the Federal Career Intern Program (FCIP) are a few programs for graduates.

Presidential Management Fellows (PMF)

The Presidential Management Fellows program was established in 1977 to attract outstanding individuals from a variety of academic disciplines who have a clear interest in, and commitment to, excellence in the leadership and management of public policies and programs. This two-year program has helped agencies meet their workforce and succession planning needs by attracting masters, law, and doctoral students to federal service. HHS offers training, rotational assignments, and professional development.

Health and Human Services Emerging Leaders Program (ELP)

The Department’s Emerging Leaders Program (ELP) is designed to recruit high potential employees and provide fast track development highlighting leadership and business skills through experiential learning and training. This Program is one of the recruitment tools used by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to hire exceptional interns with a variety of backgrounds for the effective analysis and execution of our programs. The Program recruits for GS-9 level positions in the following career tracks; Administrative, Information Technology, Public Health, Scientific, and Social Science. Please note: not all career tracks recruit each year. The Program is intended to provide centralized recruitment and management, and rotations within the Operating Divisions (OPDIV) of the Department. Formal training and leadership development are the foundation of this two-year internship resulting in a cadre of well-trained, well-qualified employees for leadership roles in the Department of Health and Human Services.

Federal Career Intern Program (FCIP)

The Federal Career Intern Program (FCIP) is a career development program, which attracts, recruits and retains exceptional individuals into a variety of occupations.

The FCIP program is ideal for individuals who are interested in working for the Federal Government on a full-time basis during a 2-year internship that provides individuals with an opportunity to be eligible for permanent placement within an agency with potential career development opportunities.
