OEM, FEMA, SBA Provide $1.3 Million In Disaster Assistance To Oklahomans

MIDWEST CITY, Okla. -- Federal, state and U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) disaster aid approved for Oklahomans affected by severe storms, tornadoes and flooding this spring surpassed $1.3 million this week, state and federal disaster recovery officials announced.
The following has been provided for applicants in Craig, Latimer, Ottawa and Pittsburg counties to help them recover following the disaster that occurred May 10-13:
- 400 individuals have applied for disaster assistance in designated counties.
- $408,732 in Housing Assistance has been approved for rent or temporary lodging and housing repair.
- $423,091 in Other Needs Assistance has been approved for personal property loss, medical costs and other serious disaster-related expenses not covered by insurance.
- 333 home inspections have been completed.
- 437 visits to Disaster Recovery Centers have been made by disaster-affected residents seeking recovery information.
- The SBA has approved more than $488,200 in low-interest disaster loans to residents and businesses affected by the disaster. The SBA provides low-interest loans to homeowners, renters, non-profit organizations and businesses of all sizes.
In addition, the process has begun in the above four counties to provide federal funding to the state, eligible local governments and certain private non-profit organizations on a cost-sharing basis for such expenses as emergency services and repairs to disaster-damaged roads, bridges and public buildings. These funds are provided in conjunction with the State of Oklahoma through the Public Assistance program of the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
Public Assistance is provided to help with recovery from severe storms, tornadoes and flooding that occurred March 17-23 in the following counties: Adair, Haskell, Hughes, Latimer, Mayes, McCurtain, McIntosh, Muskogee, Okfuskee, Okmulgee, Pittsburg, Pushmataha and Sequoyah. Pubic Assistance is also available for recovery from a disaster that occurred April 9-28 in the following counties: Adair, Caddo, Coal, Delaware, Haskell, Hughes, Johnston, Kingfisher, Latimer, Logan, Love, Mayes, McIntosh, Muskogee, Okfuskee, Ottawa, Pawnee, Pittsburg, Pushmataha, Rogers, Seminole, Sequoyah, Tillman and Wagoner.
Federal funding for reducing the risk of future disaster losses is available on a cost-sharing basis through the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program. All counties in Oklahoma are eligible to apply for assistance through this state-administered program.
