First Responders honored at Fenway Park

The Boston Red Sox hosted a ceremony prior to their Sept. 10, 2008 game versus Tampa Bay to remember the victims of the 9/11 terror attacks and to honor the emergency responders from New England who answered the call in the aftermath. (More Info)

Assistance to New England Firefighters

Firefighters at the scene of a fireNationally, the fiscal year (FY) 2007 Assistance to Firefighter Grant (AFG) awards, which will be distributed in phases, will ultimately provide over $490 million to fire departments and nonaffiliated emergency medical service organizations throughout the country.  Since the program was initiated in 2001, New England firefighters have received more than $200 million.

What We Do

From its offices in Boston, FEMA's Region I works in partnership with the emergency management agencies of Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Rhode Island, Connecticut, and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to prepare for, respond to and recover from disasters. Region I's most common challenges are hurricanes and other storms that can cause flooding and flash-flooding throughout the region, and severe winter weather.
