JACKSON, Tenn. -- Homeowners, renters and business owners who suffered losses from the recent tornadoes and storms in Tennessee have until June 5 to register with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for disaster assistance.
"We don't want anyone who may be eligible for help from the government to be denied simply because they missed the application deadline," said Michael Bolch, who leads the FEMA recovery operation in Tennessee .
To date, more than 1,700 Tennesseans have registered with FEMA to apply for rental assistance, money for home repairs, low-interest individual and business loans, additional grants to cover uninsured losses and services such as crisis counseling and free legal advice.
"There is still help available from government sources and volunteer agencies," said Marsha Cornish, the deputy state coordinating officer for this disaster. "But there is a deadline for asking for that help, and we don't want people with serious disaster-related needs to miss that deadline."
Residents of Benton, Cannon, Carroll, Cheatham, Cumberland , Davidson, Dickson, Dyer, Fayette, Gibson, Haywood, Maury, Sumner, Warren and Weakley counties are eligible until June 5 to apply for disaster assistance.
