Transforming the Cold War, US and China, 1969-1980

The U.S. Department of State and the Institute for European, Russian, and Eurasian Studies, at the Elliott School of International Affairs, The George Washington University announce an upcoming conference, Transforming the Cold War: The U.S. and China, 1969-1980.

The Office of the Historian, Bureau of Public Affairs, U.S. Department of State, together with the Institute for European, Russian, and Eurasian Studies, at the Elliott School of International Affairs, The George Washington University, announce a joint scholarly conference to be held September 25-27, 2006 on U.S. relations with the People's Republic of China, 1969-1980 (conference program). The conference will take place in Washington, DC, and begin on the afternoon of September 25 at the Department of State. It will continue on September 26, also at the Department of State, and on September 27 at The George Washington University. Scholarly sessions will complement the forthcoming release of Foreign Relations of the United States, 1969-1972, volume XVII, China and extend the analytical and documentary study of the opening in US-China relations to 1980, including the issuing of an electronic briefing book by IERES on newly declassified documents on this later period.
