The EBRD plans to invest up to US$ 600 million in Turkey by 2010. Investments will contribute to the development of Turkey's private sector and reach out to areas away from the large metropolitan centres.

Legal reform is a core dimension of the EBRD's work. Legal reform activities focus on the development of the legal rules, institutions and culture on which a vibrant market-oriented economy depends. In this autumn’s edition of Law in transition online, the EBRD proposes a set of principles to guide governments through the reform of their power markets.

In a letter to shareholders, EBRD President Thomas Mirow encourages countries with financial strength to support their weaker neighbours. All countries, and especially those in Europe, have benefited from the growing economic strength of central and eastern Europe and will suffer if the region’s economic stability is jeopardised.
