ENERGY STAR for Habitat for Humanity

ENERGY STAR’s residential construction guidelines are part of Habitat for Humanity’s construction guidelines for U.S. affiliates and they encourage all U.S. affiliates to build ENERGY STAR qualified homes. ENERGY STAR has worked closely with Habitat for Humanity affiliates across the U.S. in their effort to build new, affordable homes that are energy efficient. In fact, Habitat affiliates have won our Partner of the Year award for excellence in affordable housing, with the Houston Habitat for Humanity winning in 2007. Read about their success Word document in building ENERGY STAR qualified homes for low-income families.

View a newsletter PDF (295KB) by the Building America program highlighting Habitat’s work in building energy efficient homes, including a map showing the locations of ENERGY STAR homes built by Habitat for Humanity affiliates who are ENERGY STAR partners.

Habitat for Humanity has a fact sheet PDF (573KB) for its affiliates that describes the step-by-step process for building ENERGY STAR qualified homes. There are also a number of home energy raters who work with Habitat affiliates to get their homes ENERGY STAR qualified.
