Bevacizumab Combined With Oxaliplatin-Based Chemotherapy Prolongs Survival for Previously Treated Patients With Advanced Colorectal Cancer
Preliminary results from a large, randomized clinical trial for patients with advanced colorectal cancer who had previously received treatment show that those who received bevacizumab (Avastin™) in combination with an oxaliplatin (Eloxatin™) regimen known as FOLFOX4 lived longer than patients who received FOLFOX4 alone.

FDA Approves Avastin as First Angiogenesis Inhibitor for Colorectal Cancer
Avastin (bevacizumab), is the first angiogenesis inhibitor approved to treat colorectal cancer that has spread to other parts of the body.

Bevacizumab (Avastin™) Improves Survival in Metastatic Colorectal Cancer
Patients with newly diagnosed metastatic colon cancer who received the therapeutic agent bevacizumab (Avastin™) along with the chemotherapy combination known as IFL had substantially longer overall survival times than patients who received IFL but with a placebo instead of bevacizumab. With these results, bevacizumab becomes the first anti-angiogenesis agent to prove effective in a randomized Phase III trial.

FDA Approves Erbitux for Colorectal Cancer
Erbitux (cetuximab) is the first monoclonal antibody approved to treat patients with advanced colorectal cancer that has spread to other parts of the body.

Oxaliplatin-Based Regimen Prolongs Survival After Colorectal Cancer Surgery
The oxaliplatin-based chemotherapy combination known as FOLFOX significantly improved disease-free survival compared to 5-FU and leucovorin when used as adjuvant therapy (after surgery) in patients with stage II and stage III colorectal cancer.

Studies Suggest Exercise Improves Colorectal Cancer Outcomes
The results of two new prospective, observational studies offer compelling evidence to suggest that regular physical activity in the months following treatment may decrease the risk of cancer recurrence and death from colorectal cancer, according to the Aug. 1, 2006, issue of the Journal of Clinical Oncology.
