Photograph of Jennifer Helgeson   Ms. Helgeson began working as an intern in the Office of Applied Economics (OAE) in the summer of 2002, following her senior year in high school. She continued to work over school breaks in the OAE while earning her bachelor’s and master’s degrees. Following the completion of her BA Economics at Brandeis University in 2005, Ms. Helgeson spent a year researching Environmental Economics issues on a Fulbright Grant to Norway. She earned her MS Environmental Change and Management with a focus on Environmental Economics at the University of Oxford, UK in 2007. In the past, she has done work for the Centre for International Climate and Environmental Research, Norway and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, France. She took a full-time position in the OAE starting in autumn 2007.

Her work in the OAE as an intern was focused on producing life-cycle cost (LCC) models through extensive use of the BridgeLCC and BLCC software developed by the OAE. She worked with Dr. Robert Chapman on a number of assignments, most notably on projects supporting ChemBio Protection of Buildings in conjunction with the EPA and housing affordability in conjunction with HUD/PATH.

Ms. Helgeson is primarily interested in economic analyses and approaches to dealing with environmental issues. Currently she is working closely with Ms. Barbara Lippiatt to test a new Building for Economic and Environmental Sustainability (BEES) approach; it combines input-output analysis and process-based life-cycle assessment results through documented, realistic case studies.
