Mr. DeLauter is presently in charge of the daily operation and maintenance of the Large Fire Research Facility in the Building and Fire Research Laboratory. The 8000 ft2 facility has recently been renovated to provide additional flexibility and improved capability to conduct large fire experiments. The facility has three fully instrumented exhaust hoods, the Main Hood (12 x 16 foot), Furniture Calorimeter (10 x 10 foot) and the Small Specimen Hood ( 4 x 4 foot), with the ability to burn fires ranging from 25 kW to 5 MW ( heat release rate). He played a critical role in the installation of the centrifugal blower and associated ductwork for the new ISO standard Furniture Calorimeter. Mr. DeLauter also provides design and mechanical fabrication support for experimental configurations. He has helped assemble and instrument corner, wall, and roof sections of residential structures for evaluation of the durability of Foam Fire Suppressant Agents. Mr. DeLauter has participated in a number of field experiments that burned condemned residential and business structures in order to compare the extinguishing properties of water and foam agents. He also has assisted in running ASTM E-119 tests on wire cable tray panels for the NRC to examine heat stress durability. |
