Cigarette companies figured out long ago how to manipulate this test in order to achieve desired--or rather, deceitful--results. Rescinding FTC approval of this method would be a step in the right direction toward protecting customers from the misleading claims tobacco companies have been making. Products containing the drug nicotine should be regulated by the FDA, but that's another story.
