Been on Oregon II since, January 4, 1993.

o David Nelson joined the NOAA Ship Oregon II on January 4, 1993. At this time, David Nelson was placed in the position of a fisherman in the deck department. As time went on, David Nelson managed to climb the ladder and hawspipe up to the position of Master aboard the NOAA Ship Oregon II. David Nelson held the position of Executive Officer prior to assuming Command of the NOAA Ship Oregon II. David Nelson currently holds a 1600 Ton Near Coastal Masters License. Captain David Nelson is a lifelong resident of Pascagoula, MS where he was born and raised. Captain David Nelson has many local friends and a large loving family that reside in the local area. Captain David Nelson enjoys all sports with a strong interest in the New Orleans Saints football team. Captain David Nelson enjoys sailing on the NOAA Ship Oregon II but looks forward to the retirement phase of his life where he and his loving wife Melanie Nelson can travel the country.
