HPV Health Care Provider Materials Testing Report

HPV As part of the Division of STD Prevention’s HPV Health Communication Plan, CDC identified the need to develop and test materials to educate providers about HPV, with the goal of improving provider knowledge and clinical and management practices related to HPV infection and associated conditions. This report presents the results of 37 interviews with primary care providers in the United States, conducted in May 2005 to test a draft educational booklet. The booklet was designed to improve provider knowledge of the natural history, risk factors, transmission, prevention and management of HPV infection and associated conditions, including new technologies and guidelines for the screening and management of cervical cancer. It was tested with providers across a range of specialties and primary practice settings, who primarily served one of five specific patient population segments, including African Americans, Asian Americans, Caucasians, Hispanics, and Native Americans. The appendices to the report provide copies of the messages and designs tested.
