U.S. Labor Department reinventing work for women age 40 and above with ‘Project Second Act’ workshop series in Chicago area

CHICAGOThe Women’s Bureau of the U.S. Department of Labor is prepared to help women age 40 and above reinvent themselves and advance their possibilities for economic success by co-sponsoring Project Second Act, a program to be made available through the National-Louis University at two Chicago area sites.

“Women who want to start a new job or career, return to the workforce, start a new business or obtain a promotion will find this series of workshops extremely valuable,” said Nancy Chen, the Women’s Bureau’s regional administrator in Chicago. “This program, Project Second Act, has been developed for women age 40 and over who are ready to create their next chapters in life and increase their economic security.”

Project Second Act was developed in partnership with the Transition Network and the National-Louis University. Through a series of six workshops, this program will help participants increase their personal awareness and self confidence; identify talents, dreams and desires; choose actionable goals; and develop personal action plans to reach those goals. More than just a series of classes, the program will pair each participant with a mentor, provide online resources, and offer a supportive group and social environment.

Registration is open for the Western suburban program at National-Louis University, 850 Warrenville Road, Lisle, Ill. The six Saturday sessions will begin on October 20. Each will be held from 9:30 a.m. to noon CT.

The second Chicago-area session will be at National-Louis University’s location in downtown Chicago; Skokie, Ill.; or Wheeling, Ill., depending on which site proves to be most desirable. Interested individuals are requested to visit www.projectsecondact.org to register for the location of their choice. A session will be scheduled in whichever city attracts the requisite number of registrants.

The fee for the program is $100 to cover the six workshop sessions and program materials. Each workshop is limited to 25 participants. For more information about the project and eligibility requirements, or to request an application, please call (800) 401-0607, ext. 2229 or visit the Web site noted above.
