Agriculture Council Measures Respond to BSE Situation
On December 4, the EU Agriculture Council adopted several BSE-related measures proposed by the European Commission. With the purpose of restoring consumer confidence and supporting the EU beef market after a drop in beef demand and cattle and beef prices, these measures include a temporary ban on feeding meat-and-bone meal to farmed animals; a ban on meat from cattle over 30 months old unless tested; and an increase in beef premia advances.
