Labor Department Announces New Members of OSHA Advisory Committee WASHINGTON -- The National Advisory Committee on Occupational Safety and Health (NACOSH) will hold an open meeting on Aug. 18, 2004, in Washington, D.C. Agenda items include updates on activities of both the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH). Presentations will also be made on enforcement indicators, VPP and partnerships, regulatory issues, Hispanic Summit, and NIOSH's Steps to a Healthier U.S. Workforce Initiative. The meeting notice appeared in today's Federal Register. The U.S. Department of Labor also announced the appointment of five new members to the National Advisory Committee on Occupational Safety and Health (NACOSH). The newly appointed members are: Public Representatives Allan C. McMillan, President and CEO, National Safety Council Catherine L. Thomsen, M.P.H., Oregon Department of Human Services Safety Representative Emory Knowles, Manager, Industrial Hygiene and Safety Northrop Grumman Health Representative James A. Blessman, Jr., M.D., M.P.H., Wayne State University Management Category Jim Swartz, Director, Corporate Safety and Compliance, Delta Airlines The NACOSH meeting will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. in Room N3437 (A-C) of the Department of Labor's Frances Perkins Building, 200 Constitution Ave., NW, Washington, D.C. 20210. NACOSH was established under the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970 and advises the Secretaries of Labor and Health and Human Services on occupational safety and health programs. Members of the 12-person advisory committee are chosen on the basis of their knowledge and experience in occupational safety and health. Written data, views or comments for consideration by the committee may be submitted, preferably with 20 copies, to Wilfred Epps at OSHA, Room N3641, 200 Constitution Avenue, NW, Washington, D.C., 20210.
