Briefly

C. Edwin (Ed) Young is a senior policy analyst in the Global Agricultural Markets Branch, Market and Trade Economics Division. His research focuses on U.S. domestic agricultural policy and agricultural sector issues, including analyses of alternative farm bill options, impacts of the 1996 and 2002 Farm Acts, effects of crop insurance on commodity production and prices, and domestic support issues for World Trade Organization negotiations. He is currently co-leader of the ERS priority project on the impacts of counter-cyclical payments and related farm payments.

Background

Ed has spent his entire 30-year career with ERS in a variety of capacities. Upon joining ERS, his research focused on evaluating the impacts of natural resource and environmental programs on U.S. agriculture. The scope of his research program expanded to analyses of agricultural commodity markets and programs. In the early 1990s, he co-coordinated ERS’s technical assistance project on Eastern Europe economic information systems.

Education

Ed received his Masters and Ph.D. in economics from North Carolina State University. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Westminster College in New Wilmington, PA.
