The committee will hear a preview of a draft risk assessment on animal cloning using somatic cell nuclear transfer. The risk assessment addresses both animal health and consumption of food derived from animal clones and their progeny.
The meeting will be held on November 4, 2003, from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the DoubleTree Hotel, 1750 Rockville Pike, Rockville, MD 20852. The meeting will be open to the public.

The cloning risk assessment asked the following questions:
Do the risks experienced by animals involved in the cloning process differ qualitatively from those experienced by animals undergoing other assisted reproductive technologies?
Are the edible products derived from animal clones and their progeny as safe to eat as the edible products derived from their conventional counterparts?
Based on what we have presented, has the risk assessment adequately identified the hazards and characterized the risks relating to animal health?
Based on what we have presented, has the risk assessment adequately identified the hazards and characterized the risks relating to food consumption?
