BiographyBureau of Diplomatic SecurityWashington, D.C. Mark J. Hunter Assistant Director for Training On August 27, 2007, Mark J. Hunter assumed the duties of Assistant Director for Training at the Diplomatic Security Training Center (DSTC). The Assistant Director for Training is the principal advisor to the Director of the Diplomatic Security Service and the Assistant Secretary of State for Diplomatic Security on the development and implementation of training and professional development programs for Diplomatic Security personnel, specialized security training for other employees of the Department and foreign affairs agencies and their dependents, and certain foreign government security and law enforcement personnel. The Training Directorate is comprised of the Office of Training and Performance Support (DS/T/TPS), the Office of Mobile Security Deployments (DS/T/MSD), and the Office of Antiterrorism Training Assistance (DS/T/ATA). Prior to his current position, Mr. Hunter was the Senior Special Agent-in-Charge/Regional Security Officer (RSO) at the U.S. Embassy in Mexico City from August 2006 to August 2007. Mr. Hunter served as the Special Agent-in-Charge/RSO to Baghdad, Iraq from June 2005 to June 2006. He served as Special Agent-in-Charge/RSO in Bogota, Colombia (2002 to 2005), Special Agent-in-Charge of the DS San Francisco Field office (2000 to 2002); Special Agent-in-Charge/RSO in Jakarta, Indonesia (1996 to 2000); Special Agent-in-Charge/RSO in Bujumbura, Burundi (1995 to 1996); Desk Officer for Passport Fraud Investigations, Washington, D.C. (1992 to 1995); Senior Special Agent-in-Charge/RSO in Conakry, Guinea (1990 to 1992); and Assistant RSO in Kinshasa, Zaire (1988 to 1990). Before joining DSS, Mr. Hunter served as a police officer in Fairfax County, VA from 1984 to 1987.
