Edgar Moreno Assistant Director for Domestic Operations As the Assistant Director Domestic Operations, Edgar Moreno is responsible for managing and directing almost all DS activities within the United States, including all DS field offices, criminal investigations, counterintelligence, and protection operations. Before his June 25, 2007 appointment as head of the Domestic Operations Directorate, Mr. Moreno served as the Special Agent in Charge of the Miami Field Office, where he oversaw a robust and productive criminal investigative program that focused on passport and visa fraud, inter-agency cooperation, and asset forfeiture. During his tenure at the DS Miami Field Office, Mr. Moreno also was appointed as the overall Federal Coordinator for the June 2005 Organization of American States General Assembly, held in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Since joining the Bureau of Diplomatic Security in 1986, Mr. Moreno has worked as a Special Agent in DS’s Washington Field Office, as a Program Officer for the Anti-Terrorism Assistance program, and as Assistant Regional Security Officer in Madrid, Spain, where he helped provide security assistance and coordination for the 1992 Barcelona Summer Olympics. Mr. Moreno also served as Site Security Manager for construction of the New Office Building in Bogota, Colombia, and as a DS liaison and special advisor to the Director of Security for the Atlanta Committee for the Olympics Games. He has served as a Regional Security Officer in Bridgetown, Barbados, Deputy RSO in Mexico City, Mexico, and as the U.S. Olympic Security Coordinator for the 2004 Athens Olympics. Mr. Moreno is the recipient of numerous State Department awards, including two Superior Honor Awards, and four Meritorious Honor Awards. He joined the ranks of the Senior Foreign Service in January 2007. Mr. Moreno earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Political Science from the American University, Washington D. C., and he served as a Montgomery County (MD) Police Officer for several years before joining the Bureau of Diplomatic Security. July 2007 |
