Hunters have always played an integral part in the effort to conserve America’s natural resources. Such efforts are best illustrated by the Federal Duck Stamp Program, where for 70 years hunters have, through their participation, contributed to the preservation of more than 500 million acres of strategic wetland habitat. The Duck Stamp Program remains committed to this vital and productive partnership with the hunting community. Waterfowl hunter with dog

Hunters, you should know that . . .

  • If you hunt migratory waterfowl and you’re over 16, you need to buy a Federal Duck Stamp. Duck Stamps can be purchased at any participating US Post Office, National Wildlife Refuge, or participating store.
  • Once you buy a Federal Duck Stamp, you need to sign the front of it, in order for it to be valid. Remember—only you can use your Federal Duck Stamp, and wildlife management personnel will compare your stamp to your hunting license to make sure it is yours.
  • We strongly encourage all hunters of migratory waterfowl to check out the official U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service hunting website. In it, you will find all sorts of useful information, from where you can buy a state-hunting permit, to where you can go on the nearest Refuge to hunt. http://hunting.fws.gov/
  • ALSO---don’t forget to purchase a hunting license from your state Fish & Game Department. If you need to find out where the nearest Fish & Game office is, please click here: http://offices.fws.gov/statelinks.html

Law enforcment officers check to see if waterfowl hunters are carrying a signed Federal Duck Stamp.

If you are over the age of 16, it is illegal for you to hunt migratory waterfowl without a signed Federal Duck Stamp. USFWS/Rex Gary Schmidt.
