Improved Reliability of Ecological Forecasts to Advance Decisionmaking of Resource Managers
The Center for Sponsored Coastal Ocean Research is sponsoring a workshop of national experts on modeling that will lead to methods of quantifying poorly understood uncertainties in a manner that managers can use in their decisionmaking. Areas of emphasis will include harmful algal blooms, ecosystem dynamics, fisheries and water quality, and the products will include peer-reviewed publications and priorities for future research. As ecological forecasts become more widely utilized to support ecosystem approaches to management, coastal managers and stakeholders need to know the accuracy and uncertainty associated with these predictions.
