Through the OSHA and ITA Alliance, the organizations will work together to
encourage employers to increase employer and employee access to safety and health information and
training resources on the operation and use of powered industrial trucks and to assist employers and
employees in reducing and preventing exposure to potential hazards associated with the use of
powered industrial trucks. The Alliance's goals include:
Outreach and Communication:
- Work with OSHA to provide expertise in developing information on the recognition and prevention
of workplace hazards, and to provide expertise in developing ways of communicating such
information (e.g., print and electronic media, electronic assistance tools and OSHA’s and the
ITA’s Web sites) to employers and employees who use powered industrial trucks.
- Share information among OSHA personnel and industry safety and health professionals regarding
best practices or effective approaches in the use of powered industrial trucks and publicize
results through outreach by ITA and through OSHA- or ITA-developed materials, training programs,
workshops, seminars, and lectures (or any other applicable forum).
- Promote and encourage ITA members’ participation in OSHA’s cooperative programs such as
compliance assistance, the Voluntary Protection Programs, and the On-site Consultation Program and
its Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program.

- May 4-10, 2008:
2008 North American Occupational Safety and Health (NAOSH) Week.
The Industrial Truck Association and a number of other Alliance Program participants supported
2008 NAOSH Week, "Safety is Good Business." Sponsored annually by American Society of Safety
Engineers and the Canadian Society of Safety Engineering, the Week focuses on the importance of
preventing injuries and illnesses in the workplace.
- April 7-9, 2008: ITA Annual Meeting, the Madison Hotel, Washington, DC.
- April 9, 2008: Edwin G. Foulke, Jr., Assistant Secretary, USDOL-OSHA, gave a keynote
presentation to industrial truck industry representatives.
- February 2006 through July 2008: Powered Industrial Truck Best Practices Seminar: "Forklift
Safety: Man, Machine & Environment." Through the OSHA and ITA Alliance, ITA safety managers
conducted nine training seminars on the safe operation of forklifts for OSHA, State Plan and
On-site Consultation representatives from various regions. Applying industrial truck material
handling techniques and recognizing safe load capacity were among the topics presented. [More...]

- September 27, 2006: Steven Witt, then-Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary, USDOL-OSHA, gave a
keynote presentation to 250 attendees.
- March 16, 2005: ITA Board of Directors Meeting, Washington, DC.
- March 16, 2005: Paula White, then-Director, Directorate of Cooperative and State Programs,
USDOL-OSHA, gave a presentation on OSHA's Cooperative and Compliance Assistance programs to 25
attendees.
- October 25, 2004: ITA Annual Meeting, Doral Resort, Miami, Florida.
- October 25, 2004: John Henshaw, then-Assistant Secretary, USDOL-OSHA, gave a keynote
presentation to over 220 attendees.
