Elluminate Recognizes UIS
UIS is among 11 institutions in the U.S. and Canada recently selected as 2008 Centers of Excellence by Elluminate, Inc., a leading provider of live eLearning and web collaboration solutions. The Center of Excellence program recognized this university's "progressive approach to change" by implementing Elluminate Live! in creative ways. Specifically, UIS has brought online and on-campus initiatives together, saved time and resources, and "effected powerful cultural change," said Shari McCurdy Smith, associate director of the UIS Office of Technology-Enhanced Learning. Global Campus Accepts Applications for Online E-Learning Graduate Degree Programs
Applications are being accepted online at global.uillinois.edu/apply/ for the Master of Education with a concentration in E-Learning, as well as two graduate certificate programs in Foundations of E-Learning and Management of E-Learning. This innovative program was created in collaboration with the Department of Human Resource Education in the College of Education at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. A growing proportion of higher education programming is being delivered via the Internet because of widespread access and the potential for high quality, interactive pedagogy. Universities, colleges, and community colleges are beginning to encourage their faculties and instructors to gain formal training in online pedagogies and technologies. Corporations are also increasingly relying on e-learning to educate, train, and motivate their employees, suppliers, and customers. With a focus on design and delivery of e-learning, the graduate-level program will help prepare corporate trainers to manage online learning effectively. School of Public Health to offer two new online certificate programs this spring
The School of Public Health, Division of Community Health Sciences, is now accepting applications for two new online campus certificate programs: Basic Community Public Health Practice and Advanced Community Public Health Practice. Both graduate-level certificates are targeted to individuals who are currently working in community, public health or other related fields and whose current or future position requires either basic or advanced skills and competency in identifying and addressing community health needs and priorities. Epidemiology, public health practice and the social and behavioral aspects of health and community health assessment are the focus of the Basic program, while the Advanced Community Public Health Practice program focuses on public health program planning and evaluation, community research methods, health promotion and education and policy development and advocacy. UIS wins major national award for online teaching, learning
UIS has won a major national award for Excellence in Institution-Wide Online Teaching & Learning Programming from the Sloan Consortium (Sloan-C). UIS' exceptional leadership in advancing online education was cited in the announcement from Boston Monday. "For UIS to receive a national award of this magnitude for excellence among the thousands of colleges and universities with online programs across the country is most extraordinary," said UIS Chancellor Richard Ringeisen. "This award illustrates our commitment to three primary strategic goals -- academic excellence, enriching individual lives, and making a difference in the world." More...
