Mapping the National Parks

The 200 maps that comprise this collection date from the 17th century to the current day and provide samples of early mapping practices as well as information on the areas that would become the parks themselves. Of special interest are the nautical maps of the Acadia National Park and the maps of the Grand Canyon.

American Shores: Maps of the Middle Atlantic Region to 1850
Lawrence H. Slaughter Collection, New York Public Library
Drawing on the holdings of the New York Public Library, and sponsored by the National Endowment for the Humanities, this online exhibit is devoted to offering a number of historically significant maps of the Mid-Atlantic region up to 1850. The section 'Geographical Areas' includes a survey map of the tidewater region on Virginia completed by Peter Jefferson, father of Thomas Jefferson.
