AOWCGWA Scholarships 2008 Have Been Awarded. Check Back Again in November or December for Information about the 2009 AOWCGWA Scholarships.  

Press Release/Instructions

The Army Officers’ Wives’ Club of the Greater Washington Area (AOWCGWA) will be awarding scholarships to qualified applicants for the 2007-2008 school year. The scholarships will be awarded in three categories:

 1. High School Senior

2. College students (no older than 22 years)

3. Spouse

 Additionally, AOWCGWA will be administering a scholarship offered by the FIRST COMMAND Educational Foundation; AOWCGWA Scholarship Applications will be used to select both scholarships.  All rules apply for both awards.

 Eligible applicants are the children or spouses of U.S. Army personnel who are enrolled in an accredited  post-secondary program during this period. The sponsor may be active duty or retired, officer or enlisted.

 High school seniors and spouse applicants must reside in the Washington Metropolitan Area* along with their sponsor. The sponsor of college applicants must reside within the Washington Metropolitan Area.*

 *This area includes the District of Columbia; in Maryland: Calvert, Charles, Fredrick, Montgomery and Prince Georges Counties; and in Virginia: Arlington, Fairfax, Fauquier, Loudoun, Prince William, and Stafford Counties.  Exceptions to what is included in the residency area will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Individuals attending service academies or receiving full scholarships elsewhere are not eligible. Race, color, sex, national origin or financial need will not influence the selection of the recipients. Scholarship awards are based on scholastic merit and community involvement.

The COMPLETED application with ALL required documentation must be postmarked by 31 March 2008 to be considered for both the AOWCGWA and the FIRST COMMAND Scholarship Programs. ALL parts of the applications must be included in one envelope as a complete scholarship application package.    

To apply for the 2008 AOWCGWA Scholarship:  If you are still in High School, use the high school application form.  If you are already in college, use the College application form.  If you are a spouse of active duty, deceased, or retired military, use the spouse application.               

All - Fill out the scholarship agreement form.

APPLICATIONS MUST BE POSTMARKED ON OR BEFORE 31 March 2008. All information requested must be postmarked by the deadline or the application will be disqualified. Mail completed application packet to: Visit Web Site in the Winter of 08 for more information about AOWCGWA Scholarships for 2009.
