10/14 -- THURSDAY

9:00 AM - INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY LABORATORY OFFICE SEMINAR: Harnessing Materials Informatics for Combinatorial Engineering
Combinatorial Materials Development is an experimental approach to rapidly identify or optimize new material compositions. A data management strategy must be successfully integrated with combinatorial methods to fully leverage the benefits of combinatorial approaches for new materials discovery. To manage the current explosion of data, a proactive strategy is required. An effective data management strategy requires focusing on issues such as designing new processing approaches for materials, integration of experimental design, archiving, and data mining. There will be two talks centered around a General Electric-Rensselaer research partnership, followed by a discussion of this exciting field blending information technology and materials science.
