Diagnostic Information and Instruments

Diagnostic Information

The Client Development Evaluation Report (CDER) is an instrument used to collect diagnostic and evaluation information on individuals with developmental disabilities. A CDER is completed by a regional center or developmental center on each individual at the time of the initial Individual Program Plan (IPP) and is updated whenever there is a new IPP.

Changes to the CDER Reports and Instruments

In January 2008, the Department began transitioning its CDER database to a revised instrument with more current diagnostic standards and updated evaluation questions. This transition is taking place in phases with the full transition expected to be completed in 2011. As a result of this transition, no new CDER information will be released until Fall 2008.

While some of the revised CDER information is similar to that from the prior system, many data items are changed or new. Information from these items will not be comparable to prior information.

Quarterly Reports: As DDS embarks on this transition, there will be a gap in CDER updates. No Quarterly Report will be posted until Fall 2008.

The CDER data will be reported from the revised system as new records become available, and from the former system for records that have not yet been updated. On interim reports and data requests, DDS will combine these two datasets where possible. When the transition is complete DDS will create reports and data extracts based solely on the revised CDER. Information requests concerning CDER data may be directed to DDS Data Extraction Unit at DataX@dds.ca.gov or by phone at (916) 651-7435.
