The Gates Millennium Scholars Program (GMS) has opened the online scholarship application for the 2009 selection process. Scholarship applications must be submitted online by January 12, 2009 at 11:59 p.m. EST or the paper application postmarked on or before January 12, 2009.

As a part of our outreach efforts, students 8th through 12th grade, parents and counselors can register within the Online Communities tab at the top of this GMS homepage. GMS online communities will provide information on the GMS program, as well as provide information and techniques to prepare students for college and the GMS application process.

The Gates Millennium Scholars Program (GMS), established in 1999, was initially funded by a $1 billion grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

The goal
of GMS is to promote academic excellence and to provide an opportunity for outstanding minority students with significant financial need to reach their highest potential by:

  • Reducing financial barriers for African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian Pacific Islander American and Hispanic American students with high academic and leadership promise who have significant financial need;
