This resource guide is the culmination of cooperative efforts by NIDRR, the Department of Education, the Research Subcommittee of the Interagency Coordinating Council on Emergency Preparedness and Individuals with Disabilities (ICC), and the New Freedom Initiative Subcommittee of the Interagency Committee on Disability Research (ICDR). The guide provides a listing and description of research projects funded by the federal government and nonfederal entities, research recommendations that have come out of conferences on emergency management and disability, and a bibliography of relevant research publications.

blue flag bullet The Interagency Committee on Disability Research Annual Report to the President and Congress

This annual report addresses the mission of the Interagency Committee on Disability Research (ICDR), as established in legislation. During the reporting period identified, the ICDR works to further interagency committee participation through expansion of its operational structure to include subcommittees on disability statistics, medical rehabilitation, technology, employment and the New Freedom Initiative.

The Interagency Subcommittee on Employment (ISE) of the Interagency Committee on Disability Research (ICDR) provided an opportunity for researchers and business leaders, as well as service providers, policy-makers, and advocates, to come together at the Employer Perspectives on Workers with Disabilities: A National Summit to Develop a Research Agenda. These groups from the public and private sectors met Sept. 19–20, 2006 in Washington, D.C. to guide the ISE in setting a national research agenda focused on the needs of American businesses in employing people with disabilities.

The 2001 Survey, Assistive Technology and Information Technology Use and Need by Persons With Disabilities in the United States (AT Survey), was conducted over a nine-month period from March through December 2001.
