Undergraduate and Graduate Students

NREL's Office of Education Programs seeks to develop a capable and diverse workforce for the Laboratory, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), and the nation through mentored research internships and fellowships for undergraduate and graduate students.

DOE's Science Undergraduate Laboratory Internship Program (SULI)

The SULI program is the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) Office of Science premier undergraduate education and research program. The program is designed to provide undergraduate students with educational training and research experiences to strengthen their knowledge and skills and deepen their commitment to pursue careers in science and technology.

Community College Institute (CCI) of Science and Technology

NREL participates in a national Community College Institute (CCI) for Science and Technology sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Science and the American Association of Community Colleges. This collaborative initiative is designed to provide educational training and research experience at selected DOE laboratories. CCI offers community college students technician experience while opening doors to education at 4-year colleges and universities.

NREL's Research Participant Program

NREL's Research Participant Program gives qualified university undergraduate and graduate students the opportunity to participate in the Laboratory's research and development programs and develop expertise in disciplines related to renewable energy research.

DOE's Pre-Service Teacher (PST) Training Program

The U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Science Pre-Service Teacher (PST) Internship Program provides laboratory research opportunities to highly motivated pre-service teachers (undergraduates or graduate students preparing to be teachers).
