U.S. Mint Announces Sale of 2001 U.S. Mint Uncirculated Coin Set

Washington, D.C., May 30, 2001 – The United States Mint announced today that it will begin selling the 2001 United States Mint Uncirculated Coin Set® by mail on June 13, and online at www.usmint.gov on June 18 at noon (Eastern Time).

“The Uncirculated Coin Set is the backbone of coin collections,” said United States Mint Director Jay W. Johnson. “New collectors just starting out and experienced collectors will both want this important set, which will again feature uncirculated ‘P’ and ‘D’ mint mark Golden Dollars.”

Each 20-coin 2001 Uncirculated Coin Set includes two of each circulating U.S. coin, bearing the Philadelphia ‘P’ and Denver ‘D’ mint mark: the Lincoln cent, the Jefferson nickel, the Roosevelt dime, the Kennedy half-dollar, and the new Golden Dollar featuring Sacagawea.

The set also includes the five 50 State Quarters™ coins scheduled for release in 2001—New York, North Carolina, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Kentucky. This set is an opportunity to have all five 2001 quarters at once—in uncirculated condition—with the latest states included even before they are released into general circulation. Each set is packaged in Mylar® to keep the coins pristine and includes a specification folder from the United States Mint.

“The 2001 Uncirculated Coin Set is selling this year for the same low price as last year--$14.95,” said David Pickens, Associate Director of Numismatics. “This is quite a value, as the set once again features two additional Golden Dollar coins.”

There are no household limits. Customers may order as many sets as they wish while supplies last. Please allow 4-6 weeks for delivery.

Customers receiving this offer via the U.S. Mint mailing list will also receive a buck slip featuring the newest of the 50 State Quarters™ Official First Day Coin Covers—New York, North Carolina, and Rhode Island—available at $19.95 each. The Rhode Island Cover will be available by mail beginning June 6th, and on the web beginning June 25th. Included on the reverse of this buck slip is information on the limited-edition Formation of the Union Set, which goes on sale beginning June 13th, and online beginning 12:00 Noon June 18 (Eastern Time).
