2001 Dated Golden Dollars Featuring Sacagawea Available February 21st In Bags and Rolls at www.usmint.gov

Washington, D.C. – The United States Mint today announced that 2001 dated Golden Dollars featuring Sacagawea will be available in bags of 2,000 coins and rolls of 25 coins online at www.usmint.gov beginning February 21st at Noon (Eastern Time).

The same coins struck on the main production floor at the Philadelphia and Denver Mints, and shipped to the Federal Reserve on February 1, 2001, for distribution in commerce, will be sold to customers in 25-coin rolls for $35.50 and in 2,000-coin bags for $2,190.00. These coins bear either the Philadelphia mint mark (‘P’) or the Denver mint mark ('D') and there is no order limit. The Golden Dollar rolls will be shipped by Priority Mail, and the bags will be shipped by registered mail through the United States Postal Service.

Demand for the Golden Dollar continues to grow. Currently, the U. S. Mint has shipped over 1 billion Golden Dollars through all of its distribution channels. It took the previous dollar coin program, the Susan B. Anthony dollar, 21 years to reach a total mintage of 920 million coins.

American sculptor Glenna Goodacre designed the obverse (heads) of the Golden Dollar coin, which features the likeness of Sacagawea, the young Shoshone woman who assisted Lewis and Clark on their exploration of the Louisiana Purchase almost 200 years ago. The reverse (tails) design of the coin, by U.S. Mint Sculptor/Engraver Thomas D. Rogers, Sr., features a soaring Bald Eagle and 17 stars, one for each of the states at the time of the Lewis and Clark Expedition.
