Washington, D.C. – The U.S. Mint announced today that New Hampshire state quarters will be sold online through its official catalog at www.USMINT.gov, from Monday, August 7, 2000 at 12:00 noon (EDT) through Thursday, August 10 at 12:00 Noon (EDT). The New Hampshire coins are the ninth in a series of new quarters released under the Mint’s 50 State Quarters™ Program, honoring each of the states.

To meet customer demand, the online sale will feature a new two-roll, 80 coin set of New Hampshire quarters, as well as bags of the new coins. The new two-roll set includes one roll of coins bearing the Philadelphia Mint mark (P), and an additional roll of quarters stamped with the Denver Mint mark (D). The set can be purchased for $32.00. Customers will also have the option of purchasing the New Hampshire quarter in bags of either 100 or 1000 coins.

Like its predecessors in the series, the New Hampshire quarter bears a unique design honoring the history of the state. Featuring “The Old Man and the Mountain,” the coin depicts one of New Hampshire’s greatest natural attractions--a rock formation found on Mt. Cannon in the Franconia Notch. The state’s motto “Live Free or Die,” and nine stars representing New Hampshire’s status as the ninth state in the Union to ratify the Constitution, completes the new quarter’s design.

“More than 110 million people nationwide have started to collect the new quarters, and we see that number rise each time a new coin is released,” said Jay W. Johnson, Director of the U.S. Mint. “We are confident that the unique design of the New Hampshire coin, coupled with its increased availability through the U.S. Mint web site will encourage even more Americans to take an interest in this successful and fun program.”

The quarters are manufactured at both the Philadelphia and Denver Mints, which produce all legal tender U.S. circulating coins, before being shipped to the Federal Reserve for distribution through the U.S. banking system. A new quarter is being released approximately every 10 weeks from 1999 through 2008, until every state in the Union has been honored. The Federal Reserve orders quarters to ensure an adequate supply to meet the needs of commerce as commercial banks demand.

Customers can purchase the New Hampshire quarters three ways: First, they can save shipping and handling charges by using the Mint’s secure web site www.USMINT.gov. Second, they can call 1-800-USA-MINT. Third, they may download an order form at the web site and fax it to (301) 344-4150. A shipping and handling fee of $3.95 per order will be added to all fax and telephone orders for these products. No mail orders will be accepted.
