Freshwater Mussel Propagation Date Posted: December 22, 1999 Service contaminants staff have been working with the North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine to develop a freshwater mussel holding, propagation, and rearing facility to focus on imperiled freshwater mollusks of South Atlantic drainages. The University is modifying an existing facility for the propagation of oysters to meet this objective. With the existing physical plant and their expertise already in place, this project is a bargain approach to meeting the need for assistance with freshwater mussel recovery efforts, such as evaluating their pollutant sensitivities.
