Draft Report Available for Comment - Injuries to Hudson River Surface Water

Date Posted: August 30, 2006

The Hudson River Natural Resource Trustees have released a draft report "Injuries to Hudson River Surface Water Resources Resulting in the Loss of Navigational Services," dated July 31, 2006. The report describes how polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) released by The General Electric Company (GE) have adversely affected the public's ability to use the Upper Hudson River and the Champlain Canal for navigation and documents the legal basis for the State's claim for damages. The public is invited to review the draft report and provide comments. The draft report will be finalized after the public comment period ends on September 30, 2006. The report is expected to form the basis of a natural resource damage claim against GE for the cost of restoring the navigability of the canal. Please visit the websites (listed below) to view the report and the accompany press release that provides contact information for submitting comments on the report.
