Spill Response Planning in Southeast Alaska Date Posted: June 26, 2001 Oil Spill Geographic Response Strategies (GRSs) are being developed for up to sixty locations in Southeast Alaska. Site selection is limited to areas that have valuable natural and/or human resources vulnerable to oil spills due to their proximity to cruise ship routes. With more than 22,000 miles of coastline, it will be quite a task for a group consisting of multiple state and Federal agencies, municipalities, tribes, and other interested parties to select these areas. The Serviceメs Juneau Field Office has developed a matrix of locations and resources to use in determining which sites have the most resources in need of protection. The Service will supply a list of these locations and their resources to be included in the GRSs. These plans will include site maps, resource locations, strategies and techniques to protect sensitive areas from oil spills and will be used by response personnel
