The drought of 1977 stands second only to the drought of 2002. The unusually high and early release temperatures in 1977 most likely resulted from very low spring release volumes. With average discharge around 3000 cfs for April and May, compounded with measurements being taken at Lees Ferry which allowed warming over 15 miles, these values are undoubted warmer than measurements would have been at the dam. Lower lake elevations may have contributed to higher temperatures as well.
